What are EDCs?

Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) interfere with the way the body’s hormones work. EDCs have been linked to numerous adverse human health outcomes including alterations in sperm quality and fertility, abnormalities in sex organs, endometriosis, early puberty, altered nervous system function, immune function, certain cancers, respiratory problems, metabolic issues, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular problems, growth, neurological and learning disabilities, and more.

EDCs impact our future. Not just the health of future generations, but the existence of future generations. EDCs have been identified as a potential culprit of falling birth rates—which have dropped by nearly 1 percent per year from 1960 to 2018. At 10 percent per decade, that's 50 percent over 50 years. Or more alarming, 100 percent over 100 years. That's right. Potential infertility.

At BreathableBaby, we decided to do something about it. Just like we researched breathability and launched breathable mesh crib liners in 2002, we decided to expand our reach and take on a new challenge. We scoured scientific research, compared numerous data sources across the globe, and developed a list of the most common chemicals of concern that were not yet addressed to our satisfaction. Then, we made a commitment that products under our new BB&CO™ brand would be free of EDCs.

We're not counting and saying our products are free of 1000+ chemicals. We're just making a simple promise. Our products will be free of identified EDCs—not just BPA or phthalates. And given there are no common definitions or regulations, we will stay abreast of research and continually update our EDC list and formulations to help ensure our products are safe. Just like we've done for breathability over the last few decades, we are taking a stance.

Introducing BB&CO™ by BreathableBaby. No EDCs.

Just clean science. For today and tomorrow. Our future generations count on us.
